Sooro Renner closed the year 2023 with a total revenue of over 860 million reais, demonstrating robust and continuous growth. In recognition of the crucial role played by its 548 employees in this success, the company distributed the amount of R$8,522,745.29 in PLR, reflecting not only financial success but also the importance of the team to the organization.

It’s worth noting that during this period, production at the plants reached a total of nearly 100,000 tons of whey solids, reinforcing the brand’s position as a key player in the dairy industry in Latin America.

Sooro Renner received the Sesi ODS 2022 Seal. The award reinforces the company’s commitment to its sustainability policy and its commitment to environmental preservation, in addition to recognizing the effort and commitment of the employees who participate in the projects.

The Sesi ODS Award aims to recognize and disseminate innovative practices to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this year’s edition, industries and companies – with branches in the state of Paraná – with local impact projects were allowed to participate, as well as civil society organizations with operations in one or more states in Brazil.

WATER PROJECT

In this edition of the Sesi ODS Award, Sooro Renner enrolled just one project: the Water Project. The company has Reverse Osmosis systems, capable of generating about 700 m³/day of water for reuse. This water has an excellent quality and is used in cleaning and cooling systems. 

During the company’s operations, there is also water generated in product evaporation processes, which is also reused in boilers and cleaning. In 2022 the monthly average of water reused by the plant represents 45% of all the water consumed by the plant in Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR.

POSITIVE IMPACTS

For the Environment and Occupational Health and Safety manager, Luiz Gustavo Schulz, the award represents the commitment to nature, to customers, suppliers, employees, and the community in general. In addition, it portrays the continuous work in search of improvements and innovative projects.

“Sooro Renner continues investing in sustainability projects and advancing technologies that aim to develop its business without negatively affecting the communities where we operate,” Schulz says.

The commitment to sustainable development and all that it provides is part of Sooro Renner’s daily actions. This responsibility has been reinforced with the Sooro Renner Rural Sustainability Program, which was certified by the Unilever Sustainable Agriculture Code.

The Rural Sustainability Program is a project that aims to reach milk producers, the base of Sooro Renner’s supply chain. The initiative aims to help them grow in a sustainable and responsible way by including dignified working conditions, besides the preservation of the environment. 

Among the actions developed by the professionals that work in the Program, milk producers are oriented with regard to practices that aim to improve their agricultural productivity and milk production, with the reduction of environmental impacts, respecting the health and safety of their workers. In this way, the initiative meets the environmental pillars: the economic and social pillars of sustainability.

UNILEVER CERTIFICATION

For the Sooro Renner Rural Sustainability Program to receive the Unilever Sustainable Agriculture Code certification, several criteria had to be met. The process involves conducting a certification audit, and after the Program’s implementation, verification audits take place annually. 

The partner properties need to meet criteria involving crop and pasture management; pest, disease and weed management; soil management; water and energy management; biodiversity; waste management; animal welfare; workers’ health and safety. All these items have a relevant impact on the Program’s effectiveness and on the benefits it brings to the property and the environment.

PROGRAM IN ACTION

The initiative brings several advantages to the chain involved. Sooro Renner aims to have an intimate relationship with the environment in which it operates; as it depends on natural resources, the company is concerned with the needs of society. 

Environmental preservation ensures that resources are not depleted, so that the region and the company can continue the development process, as well as the generation of more jobs and, consequently, more income. Making a difference in society and contributing to environmental protection can strengthen a brand even more, because consumers increasingly seek to know the origin of products and brands that have socio-environmental commitment gain more credibility.

PARTNERSHIP IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN

Sooro has no direct relationship with milk producers, so it relied on the partnership of one of its suppliers, the Starmilk dairy from the city of Céu Azul – PR. The dairy, which also has in its culture and values the sustainable development of the milk chain, helped in the implementation of the program with its producers. By joining the Sooro Renner Rural Sustainability Program, the dairy and the rural producer start enjoying several advantages. High-yield crops can be produced with minimized resource consumption, and these conditions ensure the optimization of profits. In addition, the practices have a direct impact on working conditions, air and water quality, and therefore on the quality of life of the families that depend on dairy production for their subsistence.

With better crop yields, more milk is produced, and better quality milk ensures the development of dairies. The improvement in the quality of life encourages and gives meaning to the work done by people, besides ensuring the loyalty of producers in the supply of milk.

In view of the positive results and reflexes of the Sooro Renner Rural Sustainability Program, the company aims to expand this initiative. The future should be even more promising, the projection is to expand the partnerships, the number of producers should increase – from 10 to 17 – until the end of this year. Sooro Renner and Biopark Educação have signed an important partnership for collaborative researches. This technical cooperation is focused on enabling joint actions that aim at socioeconomic, scientific, and technological development, as well as the implementation of research and development projects that will benefit the companies in question. With each new project that is signed, there are more returns for the community.

The first joint work plan highlights the advantages of using Whey Permeate for the pharmaceutical segment. Currently, the pharmaceutical industry adds anhydrous lactose and some types of starches as an excipient agent during the manufacturing process of tablets. Thus, the idea of replacing Anhydrous Lactose with Non Caking Whey Permeate (because it has 90% lactose in its composition and non-hygroscopic characteristics) arose.

Among the advantages, it is possible to highlight that the pharmaceutical industry would not depend only on Anhydrous Lactose, besides the fact that Whey Permeate has a 50% lower cost compared to Lactose.

EXCELLENT RESULTS

During testing, the researchers were surprised by the potential results, as they observed excellent compression ratio, resistance to breakage (absorbs impact), and observed that the tablet was dissolving in the optimal recommended time. The tests using Whey Permeate were very good, surpassing in some aspects the comparative tests performed with Lactose.

Another highlight of this technical cooperation is that further studies may be conducted to verify the stability of the tablets throughout their storage. In addition, all the points necessary for the Whey Permeate to meet the pharmaceutical industry regulations will be evaluated.

In this first work plan, Sooro’s researchers and the laboratory infrastructure of Biopark Education were involved. It was also possible to provide teachers and students of the institution with access to laboratory tests, technical discussions and research done in partnership with Sooro.

FUTURE PROJECTS

Due to the high compression rate, other projects are on the radar, such as the development of tablets (mini format, mint flavor) with added proteins. However, these projects are more focused on the food industry.

Another project of joint development interest between the companies is in relation to the ‘characterization of the whey produced by Biopark and Biopark Education in their Fine Cheese processing plant’. This new work plan is still to be signed and will explore a possible synergy between the companies, since whey is the basis of the products developed by Sooro and, if the results point to its viability of utilization, the product could generate a new business angle for Biopark, Biopark Educação and, at the same time, a new source of raw material supply for Sooro Renner.

Sooro Renner is in constant improvement and evolution. An example of this is the new Raw Material Receiving Platform: a modern and robust structure designed to meet the company’s current and future demand. Who benefits from this? The processes, the suppliers, and consequently the final customers.

With the constant increase, over the years, of the company’s production capacity, it is often necessary to adapt the areas to meet these new volumes. The new Receiving Platform aims to provide the receiving and storage of raw materials in a more agile and satisfactory manner.

The investments have already exceeded R$ 18 million, as they also involved adjustments in the existing platform and silo areas. The project is totally automated, with minimal human interference, using first-rate equipment from the market. This modernity facilitates the operation and generates better working conditions for the employees.

EXPANDED CAPACITY

The daily receiving capacity before the new platform was

1,300,000 L/day (90 m3/h for 14 hours), that is, 37 carts per day. In the process of the old platform, the company lost time, as it required maneuvering of the trucks and manual operation to connect the discharge hoses and cleaning of the carts.

With the new structure, the current daily receiving capacity jumped to 3,450,000 L/day (150m³/h for 23 hours), which corresponds to 98 carts per day. The change had an impact on the receiving silos, totaling 1,500,000 liters of storage space for whey (raw material). The agility also arrived in the unloading process, with three platforms with double bays, three trucks are unloaded and another three are cleaned simultaneously.

SUPPLIERS BENEFITED

The benefits of the new Raw Material Receiving Platform impact the suppliers.  The receiving process gained more agility, because it is dimensioned to absorb unloading peaks that will hardly be stopped by conditions of the following processes; the truck pulls into a single position and all the processes happen right there, sample collection, unloading, and cleaning.

The advantages for Sooro Renner involve better receiving agility, besides the expanded storage capacity. These are steps that facilitate the management of the raw material within the process and allow more efficiency and quality in the services.

New Raw Material Receiving Platform

Strengthening communication is the focus of RH Connection 2022. The initiative brought together all the leaders of Sooro Renner in a unique moment to allow the members of each board to present the photograph of the moment looking across the rearview the journey traveled and to project the path that will be trailed in the remainder of 2022, as well as to provide a panoramic view of the coming years.

The HR Connection took place on September 2 and had the presence of directors, managers, coordinators, supervisors and HR’s of the plants. During the event the Chief Financial Officer, Leandro Tenfen, presented the report of the company’s results in the last 6 months and the projects in progress in the administrative sectors.,

The event had several dynamics that involved the public by sector worked: the HR promoted a moment of reflection, presented statistical data demonstrating the profile of the collaborators and the launch of UniSooro. Already the Director of Operations, Eduardo Serra, brought the data of the advances in the production processes; production data; made an explanation of the work developed in the collection of raw materials and presented a vision of the future of projects for the production area.

The Commercial and Marketing Director, Claudio Hausen de Souza, highlighted information on how the world is developing new technologies with sustainability from the field, showed sales and statistics data of the top 20 customers of Sooro Renner, in addition to presenting the work of Branding developed in the last 3 years achieving a national recognition of the Sooro Renner brand. The event also featured the Director of Innovation and Technology, Helio Garcia, who presented the projects already completed in the last 2 years, the projects that are in progress and the projects planned with execution forecast and the explanation of the projects being developed by the R & D.

STRENGTHENING THE TEAM

The realization of the HR Connection provided the leadership a moment of coexistence between all sectors and tiered levels. Participants were able to receive direct information from the senior management of the company with the opportunity to clarify doubts and contribute to the progress of strategic planning.

Other editions of the HR Connection will involve employees with the aim of aligning communication and strengthening internal policies such as the Code of Ethics, benefits, doubts about labor routines and UniSooro launch. Marshal Candid Rondon. the event takes place between the days 12 to 16 September and in the plant of Station – RS will be from 26 to 30 September.

In each edition of the event, the importance of sharing information with leaders and collaborators is reinforced. This conduct demonstrates how important everyone is and is part of Sooro Renner’s history.

FSSC 22000 is an internationally recognized food safety certification scheme.

It is based on the Food Safety Management System standard (ISO 22000), combined with the Pre-Requirement Programs (PPRs) of ISO-TS 22002-1 and additional requirements presented by FSSC.

The FSSC 22000 exists since 2010 and is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), confirming the acceptance by the global food industry.

Whey is highly proteinic. And if there is one thing that Sooro Renner knows very well, it is how to transform whey into products with different concentrations of protein.

Last year, the technical team of the harvesting area made 156 visits and traveled approximately 46,600 kilometers in the southern region of the country. In addition, Sooro Renner replaced more than 400 membranes and installed three new concentrators. The investments in infrastructure, technology, labor, and quality of the final product make Sooro Renner seek a path of proximity with its partners, standardization of the raw material, sustained growth, and results.

More than 3.5 million liters of whey are processed every day. This raw material is received from suppliers in the South region of the country and occurs due to a partnership program with supply and receipt guarantees; a joint work with the supplier that results in safety and fair valuation of the product.

TECHNICAL CONSULTING

Sooro Renner’s suppliers also receive technical assistance for the whey processing and concentration processes. This kind of assistance contributes to the improvement of the raw material quality. And to strengthen these partnerships, which promote gains for everyone involved, these suppliers are rewarded with the supply of filtration membranes for the whey concentration process.

At each dairy plant visited, Sooro Renner’s technical consultants work on the guidance of quality standards; this work is fundamental for the whey produced to meet the requirements of the legislation and standards of the Mapa (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply). The technical consultancies provided to suppliers help in the verification of the efficiency of the skimming, pasteurization and whey concentration processes. This detailed work allows us to enhance and ensure minimum solid loss and maximum efficiency of these processes.

SIDE BY SIDE PARTNERSHIP

One of Sooro Renner’s values is to have a permanent commitment to suppliers and business partners. This commitment has gained even more emphasis, in the last two years, with the performance of a technical/commercial follow-up work very close to the exclusive partners, with the periodic monitoring of the whey concentrators, by collecting samples of whey and permeates, thus tracing an x-ray of the processes and raw material quality. 

The technical follow-up work goes beyond the visits: Sooro Renner performed the replacement of membranes in all of its strategic partners, assuming the supply of these membranes at no cost to the supplier, i.e., at the company’s total cost. For the whole process to work, it is essential to train those involved, to invest in human potential, and that is why the company made available and applied training courses that involve from the separation processes with membranes to the management of the entire whey production chain.

CONTINUOUS GROWTH

The partnership program that brings together the different parts of the process brings several advantages for suppliers. Dairies can operate with tranquility and safety, with profitability, performance, and transparency in their operations. The growth is continuous, generating results and enhancing the production chain.

Through the strategic partnership program with the supplier, Sooro Renner guarantees a solid volume in its plants, which allows more assertiveness in the short, medium, and long term planning of its commercial actions. With this model and the standardization of the raw material, it is possible to maintain a minimum occupation index of the plants around 85% of the capacity. There is a guaranteed supply for the company and 100% security in receiving the whey produced by the business partner.

The year was productive; more than 60,000 tons of products, in the company’s two plants, were distributed in several Brazilian states. Sooro Renner’s products go beyond borders. In 2021, part of the production was exported to countries like Paraguay, Chile, and the Philippines.

Last year alone, the company made investments of R$98.6 million. “In the second half of the year, we concluded an extremely important investment cycle. The Non Caking Permeate production plant is one of the largest in the world. With more than 8 thousand square meters of pure technology, it increased our production and storage capacity by more than 100 tons per day, being the largest Permeate Non Caking production capacity plant in Latin America”, highlights Leandro Tenfen, Financial Administrative Director.

The enterprise has a robotic packaging palletizing system and loading docks in sufficient number to handle the production volume. “More than R$ 120 million were invested to revolutionize the domestic market. The conclusion of this cycle generated more than 150 indirect jobs and 30 new jobs”, mentions Tenfen.

COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Sustainability is also part of Sooro Renner’s commitment to the environment. To maintain the sustainable foundation, the company invested more than R$ 15 million in the new effluent treatment station and water polishing systems extracted from the serum itself. This initiative increased the capacity to reuse water and reduced the environmental impact at the Marechal Cândido Rondon unit.

INVESTMENTS AND THEIR RESULTS

Sooro Renner also invested approximately R$ 25 million in the installation of a new system of ultrafiltration membranes, a new evaporator and the retrofit of the Spray Dryer I, aiming at increasing the production capacity of Whey Protein Concentrate.

Another important investment was the conclusion of the installation of the third boiler. This project allowed to expand even more the steam production capacity. The total investment was R$ 12 million.

“In the Station unit projects are being developed to increase the storage capacity of raw materials, in-process and finished products. Besides the adaptation of chemical product storage and improvements in the automation of industrial processes, totaling an investment of R$ 6 million,” points Tenfen.

PROFIT SHARING PRAISES EMPLOYEES

The amount distributed among employees, for the year 2021, is R$ 5,000,388.80. In 2020 R$ 3.8 million were distributed. The numbers point to the company’s progress, which also reflects in the appreciation of the staff.

Tenfen points out that profit sharing is a way for the company to recognize the work and dedication of its employees. “At Sooro Renner we believe that results are obtained through people. In all, there will be 498 employees who will receive profit sharing. They are distributed among the plants in Marechal Cândido Rondon/PR, Estação/RS, and in our Distribution Center in Campinas/SP”.

Profit sharing reflects directly on the local economy. Each employee participates actively in the achievement of these results, and therefore expects and counts on the profit sharing amounts. The beneficiary uses the amount according to his or her particular desires, whether for personal finance issues, investment in goods, hiring services; this money fosters the economy in the community where Sooro Renner has its activities.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM 2022?

“We expect to grow 40% compared to 2021, which shows we are optimistic about the market in which we operate,” says CEO William da Silva.  “This optimism is a reflection of the R$80 million that will be invested in 2022 in expanding production capacity as well as in new products.”

With bold and real growth perspectives, Sooro Renner knows that to expand it needs to invest in technology, infrastructure and specialized labor. “In 2022 we will continue to invest in our people, we believe in the labor force that increasingly needs to be trained and qualified to face the challenges of growth,” concludes the CEO while emphasizing that the company treads a path of successful commitment, as it is a Brazilian giant in the dairy industry.
